Below, there is link that will take you to an area of the BrainLane testing center made available to the visiting public. It is strongly recommended you read the following description of the test and look at the screens  (actual frames from tests) - to understand the entire process.

You should first arrive in the lobby of the testing center - the screen you see should look like this:

Getting here puts you in front of the Internet Broadcasting Networks Medical and Health Industry's online service center - one of the few HIPAA compliant electronic medical record management systems in existence - and you are about to enter a public Memory Fitness Monitoring Service Account - click on the "LOGIN"

LOGIN will take you to this page:

  • Enter "Guest" as your address
  • Enter "Guest" as your password
  • Enter  "Submit"

That should take you here and the navigation buttons will take you to:

This would be your personal testing account.
  • About Memory
A brief explanation of how memory and memory testing works.
  • Test Instruction
A brief set of instructions - not as detailed as this.
  • Result Analysis
A descriptive about how to establish a personal memory fitness baseline and monitor for mild cognitive impairment.
  • Take the Test
This actually calls a test off of the server and installs it in your computer - waiting for you to take it.
  • View Your History
This is the graphic (and data) files of tests you have taken in the past.
  • # of Stimuli
This will be the number of images you will see in a test.
  • Image Time
The time (in seconds) each image of a test will be displayed.
  • Stimulus Set
There are a variety of image albums. Soon there will be "theme" albums for competitive and memory reinforcement exercising (like, a test that has vintage automobiles).
  • View Your History
Each format of tests (number of image) are stored in their own area - this is one way to use the test with multiple people - let's say you are 45 and have a parent that is 65 - you could take the 26 image tests and your parent could take the 16 image tests - the account would just be under one name.

When you click on the "Take the Test" button the program takes over -

This is the same process those who are enrolled in the unlimited access annual memory testing account ($10/year), or clinical treatment support patients experience when they are testing their memory. When the test loads into your desktop computer - it analyses your computer's set-up, memory, processing time and then gives you the "OK" sign. Once you press the SPACEBAR - the test begins.

Depressing the space bar each time you see an image repeat itself is how you take the test. Depressing the spacebar is all you have to do.

The Spacebar Is All You Use

The individual test you take will display a series of images for three seconds each image.  If you have seen an image within the current test, you press the Spacebar down before the three seconds elapses.

fishimagespacebartext.jpg (67822 bytes)   The actual taking of the test could not be simpler. Individuals with physical impairments or less experience with computers may need the assistance of family members or friends that have online computers and experience in online transaction making. However, once acquainted with the online procedures taking the test unassisted is fun and stimulating to the brain.

In the first control panel - the secure area you are first visiting within your Because the testing center is available 24/7 through any Internet browser, individuals are free to establish their memory fitness baseline and use the test to exercise their short-term memory, even compete with others in a sporting fashion.

results1.jpresultwithtext.jpg (69866 bytes)   At the conclusion of the test, the results of each image displayed are tabulated and presented and the percent score is calculated. The program has gathered over 250,000 records (26 image test) regarding the short-term memory and learning performance of your brain. If you study this page you will see that doctors and care givers skilled in reading this information have a valuable reference tool in monitoring an individual's memory fitness.

View Your History - takes you to the graphic displays (the data screens are also available by clicking on the base of the bar graph for each test) of your past testing results. It is very easy to see if your last test result was consistent with your established "normal". IF it was then all is well, if it was lower- you should come back and take another test. If consistently low scores are coming up - something is wrong and you should consult with your doctors and care giving team as soon as possible.

There is no pass or fail in taking this test, but everybody can be a winner. Just by taking the test a participant is exercising and stimulating their brain. This alone is one of the recommended ways to reduce your chances of developing Alzheimer's disease.

baselinetext.jpg (67822 bytes)   After taking the test a number of times your test scores can align into a baseline recording of your results. Research tells us that your short-term memory and learning capabilities should remain constant over most of your life having the potential to improve with exercise and stimulation.

If Your Scores Are Lower Than Previously Recorded

It is the point in time where your mental fitness suffers a reduction in performance that causes concern. If you score lower on the test than previously recorded, something could be wrong and you should take the test again. If the results are consistently lower your brain and body may be trying to tell you something.

In regards to Alzheimer's Disease, decrements to short-term memory and learning performance means Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) has begun to strangle the brain. Early detection of MCI is critical and can be of great value to the doctor's who develop treatment strategy as well as to the patient who can begin combating the disease while their brain and body is the strongest it will be in the disease process cycle.

If the scores are lower than previous tests, and you return to find consistently lower scores, you should print out a copy of you baseline scores and present them to your doctor as soon as possible.
